Fractions of a Number Worksheets
Finding the fractional value of a number is a skill that crosses all the branches of mathematics. This is a foundational skill that you will need to rely on in algebra and even when you get to more advanced forms of calculus. If you can help students understand the basic concept of what is happening here when you take a fraction of number, the math is quite simple. I find that students just struggle with understanding what the overall process. Once you help them with that, they get comfortable with this skill really quick. This selection of worksheets and lessons shows students how to find the fractional value of an integer. We do this by breaking them into shared groups.

We start with straight up problems and then number 3 shifts their whole mind set.
- Homework 1 - What is 1/6 of 36?
- Homework 2 - Multiply 3/6 by 4 to find this one.
- Homework 3 - If you divide something into two of the equal parts, then either part is one-second of the whole.

- Quiz 2 - Some of the problems are setup for you, just run them.
- Quiz 3 - Number nine usually stumps them.
How to Find the Fraction of a Number
A fraction is a common method that is used for expressing rational numbers which are not whole numbers. Fraction can be used for determining the partial value of rational numbers. The concept of fractions is taught generally at the grade school level and mastered before advancing into more difficult math stages. Identifying the components of a fraction is also important. Fraction is defined by the expression a/b. Here a and b are integers, and within the fraction a is the numerator and b is the denominator.
In order to find the fraction of an integer, you need to calculate the fraction of a whole number by multiplying that number by its numerator and then dividing that product with the denominator. Thus, the fraction a/b of a whole number x is given by ax/b.
Let's try to understand that with the help of an example. 3/4 of 21 is 3 multiplied by 21 and then divided by 4 or in simple terms, 63/4. This is called an improper fraction because here the numerator is bigger than the denominator.
When We Use This Skill in the Real World
You will often find fractions of a number whenever you need to spilt or share the value of something over several people, parts, or objects. When you go to a restaurant with your friends and the bill comes, you will need to decide how much everyone owes. Guess what skill comes in handy here? What about when you are about when you are about to bake your favorite recipe? Many times, we will have a fixed receipt that makes 6 cupcakes, but what if you needed to make 20 cupcakes or only 3? In sports the production of points, goals, or runs can be attributed to one or several players using this skill. When a coach is evaluating their team, they can use this skill to best understand which player is having a great season and also identify who may be struggling and needs a little extra time with the coach and their staff.
